Ok so I just saw a great tutorial that explained the core classed in unreal in a way that made sense.
basically it explained the differenece between game mode and game mode base and how networking in unreal engine is handeled, idk all the ins and out's of networking, but from this video I have a solid grasp of the fundamentals of the server client relationship.

this is the simplest explanation that I've found as it gives a broad overview of the how and why things work and it doesn't get bogged down in a ton of overwhelming talk about replication. That was perfect for a begginers tut on the subject I think, and I have two ideas of where to go from there. =) I'll post some screen shots if I can get it working. =)
